A graveside service can follow a traditional service, be held prior to a memorial service, or can be a stand-alone event. It is held at the gravesite, or at the tomb where the body or urn will be interred. Generally, graveside services are fairly brief. The religious officiant or funeral director may recite prayers or readings, and a eulogy may be delivered. As part of the service, the remains may be lowered in the ground or placed in the tomb.
For eligible veterans, a military service may be arranged. It is customary for a reception to follow the service.
