Evelyn Agnes Gulinski (nee Szpak) passed away peacefully on Sunday May 24th, 2020. She was 96 years old. Evelyn was born in Evanston, IL on March 24th, 1924. Evelyn was the daughter of Stanley and Rose Szpak and had a younger sister, Dolores. Evelyn spent her youth in Evanston and graduated from Evanston High School. After several years of college, she worked as a secretary until she met her spouse of over fifty years, Chester (Chet) Joseph Gulinski. Evelyn devoted much of her early married life to homemaking and helping in her husband’s radio business. After various moves, Chet and Eve settled in a dream house in Lake Forest, IL. Evelyn and Chester raised three boys and a girl: Chris, Dan, Adrian, and Renee. Once Evelyn’s youngest was in high school, she returned to work. Her new career was an executive secretary for Mr. Howell of Bell & Howell, a company that manufactured cameras. The job gave her much pride and satisfaction at a time when few homemakers returned to the work force. After retiring from Bell & Howell, Evelyn became very involved with her husband’s travel agency and provided support for many cruises, bus trips, and weekend vacations for senior groups. Many of the seniors who participated were of Polish decent and enjoyed polka music and numerous trips featured polka bands. Evelyn later became treasurer of the Senior Polka Association (SPA) and helped with much of the logistical planning for these groups. After Chester passed away in 1999, Evelyn went to live with her daughter and family in Dallas, then Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Houston. Afterwards Evelyn returned to Chicago and lived independently for several years before moving in with her youngest son (Adrian) and daughter-in-law (Debbie) in Roselle, IL whom she stayed with until her recent passing.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Chris, Daniel, Adrian, daughter-in-law Debbie, daughter, Renee, and son in law Tom. In addition, Evelyn is survived by eight wonderful grandchildren: Kristin Gulinski, Christopher Gulinski, Vicki Tlach, (spouse Brian), Philip Fauria, Christina Fauria, Corene Drake, (spouse Matt), David Gulinski, and Nicole Gulinski. Furthermore, Evelyn has two great grandchildren by Vicki and Brian Tlach named Anastasia and Nathan. Evelyn was a devout Catholic throughout her life and shared the most precious gift of faith to all her children.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Evelyn’s name may be made in the form of a Mass/Prayer enrollment to the Priests of the Sacred Heart, a donation to Catholic Charities, or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
