Henry “Bud” C. Mullen, a resident of Marengo since 1999 and formerly of Schaumburg for 38 years was born on December 23, 1924 in Chicago to the late John and the late Joanna (nee Corcoran), and passed away peacefully on April 8, 2017 in Hoffman Estates.

Bud was proud to have served as a Fireman First Class in the US Coast Guard during WWII. He was stationed mostly off the Virginia coast and spent some time on President Franklin Roosevelt’s personal yacht during that period. He was a member of Schaumburg’s volunteer Fire Department, ultimately becoming the Department’s 2nd Volunteer Fire Chief in 1971. He loved owning and raising horses and stabled his first horses at the Mansfield’s Farm on Roselle Rd. in Schaumburg during the late 1960’s.

Bud was the adoring husband of 69 years to Harriet (nee Schnell); loving father of Kimberlee Rouse; last surviving brother of John, Margaret Snowden, Mona O’Reilly and Eileen Condon; fond uncle and dear friend to many. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched, including his dog “Brella” and his horses “Hank” and “Hondo”.

Joan M. Naward (nee Geegan), 87, a resident of Schaumburg for 37 years and formerly of Chicago, was born on December 6, 1929 in Chicago to the late Francis and the late Helen (nee Gross) and passed away peacefully on April 10, 2017 in Elk Grove Village surrounded by her loving family. Joan loved sewing and was an avid bookkeeper, she particularly enjoyed maintaining the books for the Elk Grove Public Library.

Joan was the wife of 12 years to the late Michael; loving mother of Michael, Cynthia (David) Brooks and Paul (Naomi); fond grandmother of Kristin (Chris) Kowynia, Kaitlin (Andrew) Miles and Aubrey (Ryan) Boyle; proud great grandmother of Seamus and Ashling; dear sister of Dolores, William (Joan) and Robert (Marilyn); beloved aunt and friend to many. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched, especially her “Granddog” “Brad”.

John was the adoring husband of 20 years to Elaine (nee Bellas); loving father of Nicole and Samantha; beloved brother of Ken (Barb), Chuck (Judy), Shari (Mike) Beadle, Randy (Ana), Cathy (Doug) Oberbroeckling. He was preceded in death by sisters Diane Lubbers, Jean Laaker and Lori Duccini; he was a fond uncle, nephew, cousin, brother-in-law, and friend to many. Patricia “Pat” D. Desmet, (nee Marek), 71, a resident of Schaumburg for 40 years, was born on October 3, 1945 in Chicago to the late Stanley and the late Anne (nee Conrad) and passed away peacefully on March 9, 2017 at her home in Schaumburg surrounded by her loving family. Pat was a dedicated Oncology Nurse at Alexian Brothers Medical Center for 29 years. She was a past parishioner of St. Matthew Church and current parishioner of St. Marcelline Church. She was a proud member of the Schaumburg Medical Reserve Corps and a volunteer at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.

Pat was adored by her husband Charles during their 49 years of marriage; she was the loving mother of Christine (Ken) Carter, Mark (Liane) and Cindy (Joe) Pedro; beloved grandmother of Sean and Kyle Carter, Cory and Ross Pedro and Nathan, Colin and Cate Desmet; fond sister of Bob (Tracy) Marek and Bruce (Jane) Marek; dear aunt and friend to many. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Cherry M. Olson (nee Dunaway), 90, a resident of Friendship Village for 11 years and formerly of Omaha, Nebraska, was born on November 16, 1926 in Fort Worth, Texas to the late Leon and the late Thelma (nee Weatherford) Dunaway. She lived in Omaha for over 50 years, was a retired auditor for Sears Roebuck & Co., and was an active member of the First Baptist Church since 1956. She passed away on February 26, 2017 in Schaumburg with her loving daughter by her side.

Cherry was the devoted wife of 54 years to the late Harold “Bud” S. Olson Sr.; beloved mother of Harold “Hal” S. (Linnaie) Olson Jr. and Tamilyn “Tami” (Keith) Fox; cherished grandmother of Ashley (Chuck) McCloughlin of TX, Matthew (Alissa) Williams of CA, Nathan Fox of MI, Rachael Fox of CA, and Harold “Trey” S. Matthew L. Malamos, 25, a lifelong resident of Schaumburg, was born on April 24, 1991 in Hoffman Estates to his loving parents the late Harry and Monica (nee Cottini), and passed away peacefully on February 18, 2017 at his home with his loving family by his side after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. Matt was extremely active and particularly enjoyed running. He participated in several 5-15K races even during his illness. He had a love for life; he was the “life of the party” and always made everyone laugh.

Matt was the beloved brother of Alyssa and John; fond grandson of Louis (the late Elaine) and Virgil (Judy) Cottini; dear godson and nephew of Thomas (Gina); fond nephew of the late John Malamos and Michelle (Sam) Testa; dear cousin and friend to ALL. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched including his “best friend” Jack (aka “Jaji”).
