Walter “Wally” J. Komperda, 75, a resident of Panama City Beach, FL and formerly of Schaumburg for 32 years was born on June 9, 1942 in Poland to the late John and the late Angela (nee Krozel). Wally lost his battle to cancer on September 3, 2017 at his home in Florida.

Wally was a carpenter/cabinet maker by trade. He took great pride in his work and felt tremendous satisfaction in a job well done. He developed a fascination with tools at a young age. If he had a tool he was unfamiliar with, he would research its purpose and function. He enjoyed fixing anything that was broken. Often, people would seek out his advice for a project or repair. Wally was happy to share his vast knowledge and was quick to offer a helping hand to his family and friends.

Wally was the adoring husband of 49 years to Sophia (nee Dlugopolska); loving father of Donna (Patrick) Gierke, Margaret (Milton) Mason, Christopher (Veronica) and Jack; proud grandfather of Amanda Gierke, Nicholas and Matthew Mason and Camilla; dear brother of the late Joseph (Mary); beloved uncle and friend to many. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Elaine M Pekarek (née Johnson) of Schaumburg peacefully departed this world on August 12, 2017. She was 91 and was a long time resident of Des Plaines. She was known for her dedication to her family, her community, her church, and her many contributions of both service and support. She is peacefully reunited with her husband of 57 years, Robert, her parents Carolyn (Glassen) and Martin Johnson, and brothers Earl and Marvin Johnson.

Elaine graduated from Steinmetz High School in 1944. In her early life she was a seamstress for the House of Menna in Lincolnwood Illinois, and enjoyed dancing and the company of many close friends. She married her husband Bob in 1948 and became a devoted mother to four. She embarked on a career in real estate in 1971 and earned several awards for real estate sales with Wm L. Kunkel Realtors. She retired and in 2003 moved to Friendship Village. She shared hobbies that included quilting, crocheting, and scrap booking with many, good longtime friends, and contributed endless projects to her church, the local hospital and her community.

She was blessed with a large and loving family, and is survived by her brother Tom, children Karen (Paul) Klinger, Donald, Jeanne (William) Wolff, and James (Laura), grandchildren Jeffrey (Massiel) Klinger, Carrie (Scott) Logue, Layne Pekarek, Becky (Mike) Lally, Elise Pekarek, Kelly Pekarek, Kelsey (Ben) Kastner, Kristen Pekarek, Brandon (Katie) Wolff, Ross Pekarek, and 6 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations in Elaine’s name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family prays for their dear departed and asks that you follow her example by praying daily for your neighbors and loved ones.

Willes (nee Okrzesik), 97, a resident of Schaumburg for 5 years and formerly of Melrose Park was born on January 1, 1920 to the late Frank and the late Angeline (nee Habdas) and passed away peacefully on August 23, 2017 in Rockford. Martha worked in quality control for small components for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling in her later years and spending time with her family.

Martha was the adoring wife of 70 years to the late Steve; loving mother of Glenn and Karen (the late Robert) Bennett; fond grandmother of Shane and Justin Bennett and Jeremy and Brandie Willes; dear sister of Francis (the late Butch) Strzelinski, Helen (Louie) Wisz, the late Joseph Okrzesik, the late Jean Hojnacki, the late Josephine King, the late Agnes Okrzesik and the late Genevieve Okrzesik; dear aunt and friend to many. Ray enjoyed traveling to Florida during winters, spending time hunting and “sleeping” at his farm in Westfield, Wisconsin, Las Vegas vacations, and sharing Wisconsin State Fair “cream puffs” with his grandkids. He also enjoyed spending time with his “best friend” “Jake”.

Josephine (Josie) McLanis, age 94, passed away July 23, 2017 in Salt Lake City. She was born to Stella (Drwenska) and Thomas Ejchast in Chicago, IL. She was one of 13 children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony and all her siblings.

After retiring in Chicago, Josie moved to Salt Lake close to her daughter and grandchildren. Together they had many grand adventures. She shared her love of crafting, card games and jigsaw puzzles. She also served 10 years as a Salt Lake County Senior Companion and enjoyed the people she visited. Josie was an avid baseball fan and happy to have lived long enough to see the Chicago Cubs win a World Series. Josie was grateful for the friendship of the “girls” at Highland Clove, her exercise buddies at the Murray Rec Silver Sneakers and the community parish of St. Vincent’s DePaul.

She is survived by son, Frank McLanis (Karen Dally); daughter, Stella Narajowski (Henry); granddaughter, Debbie Kessler (Scott); grandsons, David Narajowski (Megan Cushing) and Daniel Narajowski; and four great-grandchildren, Sara, Madeleine, Adam and Jacqueline.
