Lorraine C. Balsamo (nee Martin), 83, a resident of Glendale Heights for 30 years, was born on April 30, 1931 in Chicago to the late James and the late Ann (nee Simutus) and passed away peacefully on June 29, 2014 in Aurora. She was a proud 1949 graduate of St. Casimir Academy, now known as Maria High School, earned a 2 year business degree as a comptometer and later worked for Sinclair Oil and Sears Roebuck. She also worked in her family’s business, Don & Angie’s Pizzeria in Glen Ellyn.

A match made in heaven, she is now reunited with her beloved husband Mario Balsamo; loving mother of Anne Marie, Laura Ann and Rose Marie; affectionate Grandmother of Amanda Shari; dear sister of the late Ann Barnes (nee Martins); beloved aunt to William (Virginia) Barnes, Jr. and Patricia (Terry) Scholl; Friend to many, she will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Leslie Ann Schmitz, 52, a resident of Elgin, was born on May 23, 1962 and went home to be with the Lord on June 20, 2014. She had a zest for life and was a kind soul with a passion for serving others. She always put the needs of others before her own, loved her family and friends deeply and lived life joyfully.

She is survived by her daughter Stephanie (Matthew) Rodriguec; beautiful grandchildren Bryce and Efella; her loving mother Arlene Schmitz, brothers Michael and Mark; aunts, uncle, many loving nieces, nephews, wonderful friends and her beloved dog “Dink”. She was preceded in death by her father Carl and her sister Lorie, her grandparents William and Eva, her grandmother Valerie Christ and uncle Fred Christ.

Ann Louise Martin (nee Zeleznikar), 88, a resident of Hoffman Estates since 1976, was born to Joseph and Paula (nee Hrebar) on September 8, 1925 in Aurora, Minnesota. One of 11 children, she is also survived by her sisters Jeannette (Tom) Gibson, Inga Long and Mae McGhee.

Ann passed away peacefully on June 19, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Devoted wife of 47 years to the late Robert W. who preceded her in death in 1994; loving mother of her sons Bill (Nancy), Mike (Margie), Rob (Jenny) and John (Kathy) and daughter Jeanne (Bill) Kelley; beloved grandmother of Heather and Sarah Martin; Monica, Bill, and Michelle Kelley; and Joey, Bobby, Katie, Eddie, Tammie and Danny Martin.

She was proud to have taught for over half a century, having moved to Hoffman Estates to teach at St. Hubert School. Although her children and grandchildren were her love and joy, Ann’s thoughts never drifted far from the cabin she and her husband built on Crystal Lake in northern Minnesota and that her children and grandchildren thoroughly enjoy to this very day.

O’Neil (nee Dziedzina), 59, a resident of Glenview since 1986 and formerly of Park Ridge was born on May 16, 1955 in Chicago to her loving parents Stanley and Valerie and passed away peacefully on June 13, 2014 in Glenview with her loving husband and granddaughter by her side. Marge earned 4 Master’s Degrees and was proud to have been a teacher for Maine Township High School District for 37 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society.

She was the adoring wife of 5 years to Robert; loving step-mother of Susan Geiger-Wojtal, Kelly (James) Kruk and Candice O’Neil; dear grandmother of Anthony, Genamarie, Autumn, Ryan, Bryan, Jamie and Braylon; widow of the late Michael R. Geiger; fond sister, aunt, godmother and friend to many, she will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Jean Hastings Genster was born on December 21, 1938 in Milford, Delaware and passed away suddenly on May 3, 2014. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Matilda and Robert and by her daughter, Mary Beth Scherer.

Jean received her nursing degree from the University of Delaware and practiced nursing for many years before becoming a nursing instructor at Harper College in Palatine. She taught nursing there for 30 years and was loved by generations of students for her wisdom, kindness and sense of humor.

She leaves behind her daughter, Patricia and son, Robert as well as six much-loved grandchildren, Sierra Genster, Tyler and Annie Scherer and Makaya, Haley and Ian Genster. She will be greatly missed by other family members and by her many friends.

Raymond “Ray” A. Kane, 97, a resident of Friendship Village for 5 years, raised in Chicago and longtime resident of Barrington Hills, was born on May 27, 1917 to the late Martin and the late Nellie (nee Butler) and passed away peacefully on May 27, 2014 in Elk Grove. Ray was a 1939 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, earning a degree in civil engineering. He enjoyed a long career as a sales engineer for Indiana General Corp. He was proud to have served as an engineer in the US Army stationed in Italy during WWII. Ray was a devotee and season ticket holder of the Lyric Opera and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Ray was the adoring husband of 12 years to the late Dottie (nee Beiker); loving father of the late Joey; he was preceded in death by his seven brothers and sisters he was the dear “Uncle Ray” to many nieces and nephews. Friend to all, he will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
