Eugene “Gene” V. Grasso, 93, of Elk Grove for 20 years and formerly of Roselle for 42 years,  was born on December 9, 1920 in Chicago and passed away peacefully on April 11, 2014 in Wisconsin with his loving daughter by his side.

Gene was proud to have served in the US Army as a radio operator during the Korean Conflict and was an active member in the Moose Legion, VFW, the American Legion NW Dupage Post 184, Roselle and was a past governor in the Moose Lodge in Elgin. He was always tinkering away on electrical projects and enjoyed golfing. He was a member of both St. Matthew and St. Walter Churches.

Gene was the adoring husband of the late Kathryn (nee Bleiler); loving father of Barbara Washington, Patricia (Frank “Butch”) Moore, Diane (Craig) Ladd, Phyllis (James) Simandl, Jeffrey (Kathryn) and Timothy; dear grandfather of 11; proud great grandfather of 8; he was preceded in death by his brother George, granddaughter Anastasia Ladd and dear friend Dorothy Ward-Grasso; he will be missed by all those whose lives he touched and will be joining his feline friend “Velvet”.

A Resident of Schaumburg for 60 years, Elizabeth “Tuddy” J. Piontek (nee Pape), 83, was born born on July 21, 1930 in Chicago to the late Walter and the late Elizabeth (nee Hishke), and passed away peacefully on April 10, 2014 in Barrington with her loving daughter by her side.

Tuddy was the adoring wife of the late John R.; loving mother of Amy Berta and the late John R.; fond grandmother of Caroline, Robin, Holly, Andrew and Jackie; dear sister of Walter (Anne) Pape; dear aunt and friend to many, she will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. She will be reuniting with her “best friend” “Nellie”.

Joachim “Joe” L. Saldanha was born on February 27, 1939 in Valencia Mangalore, India to the late Abundius F. and the late Mary R. (nee Barboza,) and passed away peacefully on April 3, 2014 in Elk Grove Village with his loving family by his side. Joe was a fun loving person; he was always smiling and loved dancing. He was proud to have served in the Indian Navy for 15 years. Appointed as Chief Engineer of the aircraft carrier Vikrant, he was one of two people selected by the government of India to escort the vessel upon its construction from the shipyards in Scotland to India.

Joe was the adoring husband of 39 years to Lizzie (nee D’Souza); loving father of Jason (Robin) and Steven; fond grandfather of Jacob; dear brother of the late John (Terry), Jane (the late Ryan) D’Souza, Genevieve (the late Albert) Mathias, John (Pam), James (Rita), Marian (Fammie); dear uncle and friend to many. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Stephanie Tanka (nee Hutman), 92, a resident of Plum Creek Supportive Living in Rolling Meadows, was born in Ford City, Pennsylvania on November 26, 1921 to the late Michael and the late Pauline (nee Burdiak) and passed away on January 4, 2014 with her loving daughter, Janny, by her side.

Stephanie was the adoring wife of the late Victor; loving mother of the late Estelle Victoria Kaitschuck, the late Valarie Ann Tanka, Marie (Steven) Malaniuk, Anna (Peter) Sidoti and Janet “Janny” (Garet) Christ; fond grandmother of James (fiance Bernadette) Malaniuk, Robert (Jennifer) Malaniuk, Catherine (Jonathan) Renner, Stephanie Sidoti and Courtney (Robert) Campodonica; proud great-grandmother of Bailey Malaniuk. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters Michael Hutman, Donald Hutman, Alice Zick, Mary Marique, Sally Gemelli, John Hutman, Helen Muhlbauer, Paul Hutman and Nicholas Hutman. Eric was loved by everyone that met him. He was a hard-working and loyal employee for Mead Fluid Dynamics for over 45 years.
