In the early hours of Saturday morning August 18, 2018, our Mom, Dorothy Ann (Desplenter) (Denten) Garvey, was wrapped in our Lords arms and brought into the arms of our Dad after 45 years and 3 months apart. She passed peacefully and finally without pain. She was a very loving and caring woman who lived and died, to the end, her way. Dorothy truly lived a full life of 99 years and has left a legacy beyond words for her family to cherish.

She was an avid reader and loved to exchange books with her daughter-in-law Lynn and granddaughter Kelly. She enjoyed playing double solitaire with her daughter Kathy. She crocheted beautiful afghans for each of her 12 grandchildren in their favorite colors. She was a good listener and always there for any grandchild that needed a compassionate ear. She loved to travel with or to visit her children all over the states. After her husband’s passing, she lived with her son Jim and wife for several years and after a few moves with them, she decided to move back to Illinois and be close to more family and friends. She was a caregiver for many from an ill newborn grandson to her father who died in her arms and several friends in between.

She was the caring daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (DeBuck) Denten; caring daughter-in-law of the late Dora Garvey; beloved wife of the late Edward for 33 years; loving Mom of Mary (Jerry) Goggin, Late Kathy (Ken) Rundquist, Jim (Lynn) Garvey, and Ken (Becki) Garvey; cherished Grammy of Karen ( Rebekah), Kate (Kevin), Krista (Steve), Carrie, Paul (Tammy), Dave, Ginni, Kathi, Kelly (Matt), Mandi (Kevin), Matt and Joe; adoring great-grandmother of Josh, Colin, Cody, Sam, Connor, Chloe, Aidan, Alexia, Kaleia, Reese, Mackinzie, Owen, Brody and soon another; fond sister of the late Frank, late Eleanor Hirons, late Arthur, William (Alice), Raymond (late Nancy)(Marilyn), late Edward (Cathy) Denten; aunt of many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dorothy’s name to JourneyCare of Barrington, 405 N Lake Zurich Rd, Barrington, IL 60010, (224) 770-2489.
